Introducing Sensu

Since 2010, it has been Sumo Logic’s mission to democratize machine data. Naturally, we tend to focus on the outcomes: reliable and secure applications and systems that are the engines of successful modern businesses. But to drive these outcomes, and before the spotlight-hogging analytics kick in, algorithms require data. And this is where the magic starts! Sensu has been working on championing a monitoring as code approach to building observability pipelines for a decade now.

Proudly open source from the beginning, Sensu tooling has been used pervasively across the board by enterprises, startups, in the cloud, on-premise, and everywhere in between. The chances are that you or your company is running and relying on Sensu in some place or the other. From the beginning, it has been Sensu’s insight to monitor and observe systems, data has to be generated, observed, collected, enriched, and ingested. With Sensu, all of this works in an automated, highly scalable fashion from a single point of control. Sensu is the control plane for observability.

At Sumo Logic, we couldn’t be happier that we’ve signed an agreement to acquire Sensu. It just makes Sensu!

Let’s hear from the Sensu team:

Sensu was originally designed to integrate with infrastructure as code tools and workflows. Sensu was quickly shared with the wider community as an MIT-licensed open source project and embraced by the earliest adopters of DevOps practices. Fast forward to 2021 and the Sensu community has grown to over 3,000 companies and about 1 million nodes under management between the paid and OSS versions of Sensu!

Today Sensu Go provides users with a turn key monitoring and observability solution that enables organizations adopting DevOps and SRE practices to manage modern ephemeral multi-cloud infrastructure, consolidate monitoring tools, and eliminate data silos. Sensu's differentiated monitoring as code approach has made our commercial distribution appealing to large enterprise organizations and others – each with tens of thousands of nodes under management.

As we look ahead to the future, we're excited to partner with Sumo Logic to accelerate an emerging trend – that of hundreds of smaller organizations who are looking for an integrated observability platform with metrics, logs, and traces - beginning to adopt Sensu Go. Sensu Go improved on the original Sensu open source project in ways that has made it easier to rollout at any scale from a few dozen servers, to the largest enterprises in the world. In combining our passions around monitoring and automation with Sumo Logic we look forward to empowering the people who power modern business with a simple and unified observability platform.
