AWS Lambda App for Sumo Logic

AWS Lambda is a new service that allows developers run code without provisioning or managing servers. You can run code for virtually any type of application or backend service and set up code to automatically trigger from other AWS services or call it directly from web or mobile applications.

With Lambda, developers do not provision AWS instances since Lambda performs all the operational and administrative activities. The code you run on AWS Lambda is called a “Lambda function, ” which includes your code as well as some associated configuration information. You can execute as many copies of Lambda functions as needed. AWS Lambda:

• Provisions capacity
• Monitors fleet health
• Applies security patches
• Deploys code
• Runs web service front ends
• Monitors and logs your code
• Scales as needed

Using the Sumo Logic App for AWS Lambda, you can drill into the health of all your Lambda instances and:

• Monitor all Lambda functions for performance and operational trends.
• Measure key performance indicators per function, including requests, billed duration and maximum memory.
• Evaluate the impact of a specific function by comparing adoption and performance to other functions.
• Calculate the costs associated with specific Lambda functions to optimize spend.

The Sumo Logic App for Lambda reports are based on:

• Duration
• Billed duration
• Memory size allocated
• Max memory used
• Compute usage (memory size x billed duration)
• Unused memory

Route your Amazon CloudWatch logs to Sumo Logic for advanced analytics and real-time visualization using the Sumo Logic Lambda function. Available in the AWS Blueprint Library, the Lambda function allows you to:

• Execute a Lambda function to route CloudWatch logs to Sumo Logic without requiring multiple calls.
• Collect CloudWatch logs in real-time.
• Visualize your CloudWatch log data with other log sources for top-to-bottom application visibility.
